The Power of Slow

It's okay to go S L O W.

This was one of the themes of the conversations I had with some brilliant local businesswomen the other night at an in-person event that filled my soul.

If we're in this thing for the long haul because it's the work we love, and we're not just trying to make a quick buck, finding a pace that we can maintain is key.

Ultrarunners, folks who run 50 or 100+ miles, talk about the importance of going slow. If you want to run a half marathon, sure, crank it up! But if you're going to be running for hours and hours and hours, slowing down is actually HOW you make it to the finish line.

Slow is the strategy.

Well, that and a boatload of training and dedication.

The same is true if you want to run your business for a long time.

There will be times that you'll speed up for a bit. For a purpose, for fun, for a season, just to see if you can...but truly being on this path for years means that you get to—need to—settle into a rhythm that works for you.

Overall, this path of business building and leadership and bringing a vision to life is about being steady. Finding a pace that you can maintain. Fueling along the way. Enjoying the scenery. You’ll get to the end in much better shape that way, too.

That's the power of slow.
